How To Spot The Eid Grinch

Are you an Eid Grinch? Do you not have fun on Eid? How do you tell someone if they are the Eid humbug? Here are three signs.

1. Working on Eid when they don't have to

2. Not giving Eidi or gifts to children/family

3. Staying home and watching TV all Eid day

Eid is meant to have fun. It is meant as a celebration, BY GOD, for all you have done in Ramadan. It may be a challenge to celebrate Eid in a non-Muslim country but it's not hard, nor is it particularly tough. Really, is it that hard to just have a good time?

Have a party. Arrange some games (here's some Eid game suggestions!). Visit your friends. Give your mom a call (and dad too). Forgive your enemies. Switch off the TV and go outside. Don't be a $$$$ miser, give some gifts!

Here's in advance a very happy Eid Mubarak to all my readers.

Haha love this. Oh I know quite a lot of Eid grinches who refuse to take a day off work because they "can't"...

I work part-time and took off the entire Thurs-Sunday lol!

Eid Mubarak to you too!

I always celebrate Eid in Toronto, even before I had kids! I always go for Eid prayers at the CNE/Rogers centre. It's so much fun, you meet people, friends and the kids have fun. Eid mubarak!! sf

@Organica, the Bengali custom for Eidi is for the younger person to approach the older one for blessings after which Eidi is granted! :-P So when are we seeing you back in Toronto? :-D

@Muslim Girl, yup refusing to take the day off when they can is one of pet peeves against these Eid grinches. Some people don't even lose any money - they are unionized or whatever, yet they won't do it!

@Sf, are you going to the CNE this year? It is indeed fun, especially reconnecting with old acquaintances.

Eid Mubarak! Hope you and your family enjoy this Eid to the fullest!

Your post is fun and yet has a message to tell.Love this! Here we follow the Chinese style of giving packet money to young children. The more relatives they visit, the more $$$ they get :) It's really fun when cultures amalgamate :)

Haha. Here in SA, for 99.9% of us, its unthinkable to work on an Eid day... in fact so much respect is paid to religious / cultural practices that its frowned upon (quite severely) when people don't adhere to these practices :P

Its always amazing to see our differences. Being 5th, 6th and 7th generation South Africans means that everyone loves Eid here... no ones longing for any "Motherland" so to speak. This is home, as messed up as it usually is ;)

Anyways, I hope you and your family had a great day... a belated Eid Mubarak to you and yours :D

@Hum, thanks! Hope those grinches had a good Eid too! And as did you.

@Geeki, being able to take off work for any reason is great ;-) Oh yes, we definitely need to have a toronto bloggers eid/etc. dinner. I agree, it's been a while.

@Suroor, thanks. Hope you had a lovely Eid.

@Safiyyah, it's fair and balanced news hehe.

@Smiley, Eid Mubarak to you as well.

@Lat, I went to a Chinese wedding and there also every gift is a cash. Even they had games and the winner won cash! I think I like Chinese stuff hehe.

@Azra, thank you and hope you too had a lovely Eid. Your comment just raised my already high level of respect for South Africans by yet another notch.

@Sf, you know, I have NEVER been to CNE (the Ex)!! InshAllah next year!

@Abu Pokemon, All those $$s disappear when you have to buy Lego! :-(
