Vacation Question

So I was surfing Facebook and then I noticed one of my hijabi friends posted her vacation pictures.

With nothing to do at lunch I clicked on her album. It seems she had gone there with a few of her girlfriends, all of whom are hijabis, and very conservative Muslims too.

Where did they all go for their week long vacation?

Er, Las Vegas.

So what does a bunch of hijabi wearing, Quran-toting, non-gambling, non-drinking, non-sex-show-attending Muslim chicks do in Las Vegas?

Seeing her online, I messaged her.

"So, you don't drink, you don't gamble, you don't attend burlesque."

"So, what exactly did you gals do in Las Vegas?"

And she, after a brief pause and with what I can only imagine in a beautiful smile on the other end replied with that famous line,

"Mezba, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!"

Er, something's wrong in the picture, methinks. :-D

I didn't know there was anything else to do there besides drinking and gambling, maybe it's better not to know :S

LOL. That was cute :)

I've personally never really wanted to go there because it's not really the sort of environment that appeals to me. My parents went to Vegas recently because they got a huge discount on a hotel and airline tickets that were basically free. They don't really gamble, but they decided to spend $5 each on that (which they both promptly lost). After that they got so bored that they rented a car and drove to the Grand Canyon and spent the rest of their vacation there which they absolutely loved. Makes me a bit jealous actually :)

If what happens in Vegas stays there... I would not have even told anyone I went there.... just out of curiousity... did they wear their hijaab while they were...

Ha! This reminds me of a story of a friend of mine who wears niqab (as does the rest of her family) and her mom's actually one of the most well-known hifz teachers in the city. My friend got engaged to a guy from Vegas and during a visit there decided to get married.

So they went to one of the many Vegas wedding chapels and got married. After the ceremony, she walk out in her white wedding dress, with a group of niqabi ladies all in black behind her!

Though they made for a strange scene, apparently the people in Vegas are very friendly in congratulating newly married couples. So maybe there's no drinking or gambling to be done there, but getting married is still an option!

Maybe, maybe! I noticed the mother of one the girls in one of the pictures too.

Ali: The pictures were all generic, just group shots, or shots of buildings, or the road from inside the car!

Ahmed: and just when I wanted to go, the dollar falls through the floor ....

Anonymous: I would like to go just to say I was there.

Suroor: haha, one thing Canadians are known for is travel.

Solace: they did. They are really good Muslims, and I don't fault anyone for travelling, but I guess I would be really bored in Vegas if I were them. And they keep strictly halal too, so all those buffets are out of the question.

Anonymous: well no one got married let me tell you, lol.

At least as far as I know ...

I wouldn't know, but I have been told that there are plenty of clean fun things to do Las Vegas. But as I said ... I wouldn't know.

Found your blog today, I am from Toronto now living in Nova Scotia, a new revert.

As for Las Vegas there is alot to do that is actually halal. More and more it has become a family destination.
