Cuddle Your Wife for $1 Million?

May I never have Nasser Hussain's mentality.

Here is the story summary. Allen Stanford, a rich Texas billionaire, has organized the richest cricket match in history. This weekend, the winner of the 3-hour Twenty-20 cricket match between England and West Indies (or Stanford Superstars, as they are branded), will take home a cool $20 million. Imagine that, for three hours of work, provided you win, the $20 million is yours to be split amongst 11 people.

Yesterday, Allen Stanford apologised for his behaviour after being caught on camera flirting with players' wives and girlfriends. Er, he was not just flirting, he had his arms around two of the wives and another wife (of Matt Prior) on his lap [Cricinfo].
Stuart Broad, who was bowling at the time, commented: "When the pictures came up on the big screen there were a lot of gobsmacked people in our side. Matt Prior was in a state of shock, especially as his wife is pregnant."
After the apology though, here is what Nasser Hussain, the former English captain and now a commentator, had to say.

"It was pretty harmless, to be honest, and the wives must remember that their husbands are potentially earning a fortune by being here and they are in a lovely place having a lovely time in the sunshine.

If the man who is putting up all the money wants to give them a quick cuddle for the cameras is that really a big problem?"

I think it is a big problem if a husband thinks it is ok for another guy to "buy" a cuddle with his wife... What's next? A kiss? Would more money make that ok too?

It takes two to tango I think. If we must place blame, we have to give it to both parties. And some to the cameramen who were filming, for sure. If a few people saw the incident, it would've been a normal rocky patch in the relationships between the husbands and wives. Once it's broadcast for the world to see, it's blown up into a scandal.

Disgusting.

But did the women let him "cuddle" them willingly? I wonder about that. Maybe there was fault on both sides.

Solace: His response is also I think insulting to women. It tells them to "put up and shut up". He needs to see the movie Indecent Proposal.

Yawar, Liya: From all the news reports I read it seems the women were all shocked and a bit unsure how to behave. It's like at a Christmas party your boss suddenly misbehaves with your wife and the wife is unsure how to react. Which, given the money here, is exactly what it was. But you are right, the women are to blame as well. Perhaps giddy with the money, they proved they agree with Nasser Hussain too.

When I read that one quote by Nasser I immediately thought of "Indecent Proposal" as well. His commented sounded kind of prostitutyish if you ask me. (and yes I just made up a word)

And speaking of uncomfortable situations, I was once in a very unfortunate one where a Pakistani man twice my age whom my father had invited over for dinner along with several other people basically hit on me and made comments about my appearance everytime my father left the room or was speaking with someone else. And before he left for the evening he pulled me against him and planted this disgustingly wet kiss on my cheek. I was so shocked I just stood there and basically smiled. It really is difficult to decide what to do, because you don't want to make a scene or come across as kind of a bitch, especially if you are a guest or in my case the man is the guest.

Some men are just pigs. Nasser Hussain included.

Mezba, did you not approve my comment or did it never make it? :S

Anon: Ew, that sounds ugly. All parents I guess must be vigilant of all adults around their kids, even trusted ones, and kids must be taught the right touch vs the wrong touch.

misspecs: Specs, didn't get any comment from you!

Out of 11 players, he was seen only with 3 of them... Prior's wife seems to have gone overboard...sitting on his knee? thats a little too much...

I bet u allen might have said something to them that made them do it... like maybe... regardless of whether your husbands win the game or not, i will still let u take some money home provided you.........

Behbood: Now he is saying he didn't even know who the women were! hah, a likely story!

I wouldn't sit in that ugly man's lap even if he offered me a million dollars. Yuck!

mezba said...

Suroor: Haha, and now the good part is England lost!

They were so sure they were gonna win it , it was nice to see the faces of the wives and girl friends as they were being thrashed by the West Indies players. So the Carribean guys go home with 1 million each and the English go home with zero.

yes, and I find the comment: ''Oh remember their husbands have the opportunity to earn a fortune'' despicable! Disgusting! It's like prostitution!

mezba said...

Aafke: The English were ruined by their snobbish attitude and now the players want to run after the Indian board's tournament, the IPL, rather than their own board. English cricket is in a fine mess!

mezba said...

And I was surprised by their own anything for money attitude! Exactly - it was psuedo prostitution!

Disgusting indeed. They probably thought *if we don't sit/cuddle, our shopping goes out of the windo*. Yah,where were the other wives?? Everyone has a limit and some of these wives thought it was *fun*. Ewwww. And it's true, I don't trust my daughters with anyone, you don't know how everyone thinks. sf

Sf: It shows that for all the "moral" issues they have playing against countries like Zimbabwe or Pakistan, when it comes to money everyone has a price, even former English cricket captains.

Oh how the mighty have fallen--Sir Allen Stanford is shunned by the cricketing community after being pinned by the SEC for investment fraud.

mezba said...

Yawar: I wonder what Nasser Hussain has to say now.

mezba said...

It's even uglier when you realize some of the West Indian players were persuaded to reinvest their millions with Stanford's investment arm which is now frozen.
